Gum Guar Quality Seed Production

Project Mentors:

  1. Dr. Deepak Sharma (PI) - Assistant Professor, GUNI-KKIASR
  2. Dr. Vipul Baldaniya (Co-PI) - Assistant Professor, GUNI-KKIASR
  3. Dr. Apurv Patel (Co-PI) - Assistant Professor, GUNI-KKIASR

Collaborating Organization:

Goldking Biogene Private Limited

This project was undertaken in collaboration with Goldking Biogene Pvt. Ltd., which provided technical support and inputs for organic and microbial-based seed treatment.

Objectives:

  • To educate students on the principles and practices of seed production.
  • To demonstrate quality seed standards, including isolation, rouging, and field inspection.
  • To enhance student understanding of post-harvest handling, storage, and seed certification.
  • To build student capacity in sustainable and commercially viable seed production systems.

The Gum Guar Seed Production project aimed to offer experiential learning to students in the domain of scientific seed production and quality management. Recognizing the role of high-quality seeds in agricultural productivity, this project involved students in all critical stages of seed production—from field selection and sowing to harvesting and post-harvest processing. Through active collaboration with Goldking Biogene Pvt. Ltd., students explored the use of biofertilizers and organic seed treatments, gaining valuable exposure to environmentally sustainable and commercially relevant technologies. The initiative emphasized both theoretical understanding and practical execution of protocols essential for maintaining seed purity, genetic integrity, and viability.

Serving as a live training module, the project bridged the gap between classroom learning and real-world agricultural practices, fostering technical skills and entrepreneurial thinking among students.

Outcome:

  • Students gained hands-on experience in complete seed production cycles—from sowing to final processing.
  • Training was provided in field-level quality management, including off-type removal, genetic purity, and detailed record-keeping.
  • Developed technical understanding of seed testing standards such as germination rate, moisture content, and seed health indices.
  • Strengthened student competencies for careers in seed production, agri-quality systems, and entrepreneurship.
  • Demonstrated an effective model of academic-industry collaboration that enhances both learning outcomes and skill development.
