National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government-sponsored public service program in India. It was launched in 1969 and is conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. NSS provides an opportunity for young students to engage in various community service activities and programs.
NSS aims to develop the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service. It's motto is "Not Me But You", emphasizing selfless service to the community.
Objectives of NSS
The GUNI NSS programme in colleges operates with a set of well-defined objectives. These include:
- Community Service: Encouraging students to actively engage in community service activities, addressing social issues such as education, healthcare, environmental conservation, rural development, and more.
- Personality Development: Providing a platform for students to develop leadership skills, enhance interpersonal communication, and build a strong ethical foundation through various training programs and workshops.
- Empathy and Social Awareness: Promoting a sense of empathy, compassion, and understanding towards the needs and challenges faced by marginalized sections of society, encouraging students to become responsible citizens.
