Project Coordinators:

  1. Dr. Deepak Sharma (PI) - Assistant Professor (Genetics and Plant Breeding), GUNI-KKIASR
  2. Dr. Vipul Baldaniya (Co-PI) - Assistant Professor (Crop Physiology), GUNI-KKIASR

Collaborating Organization:

Suprime Agro Input Private Limited

This project was implemented in partnership with Suprime Agro Input Pvt. Ltd., which provided technical support in seed production protocols, field management, and post-harvest quality enhancement.

Objectives:

  • To train students in scientific seed production methods with a focus on wheat as a Rabi crop.
  • To implement experiential learning in real field conditions, promoting skill-building through practice.
  • To demonstrate seed quality management protocols, including isolation distance, genetic purity, and field inspections.
  • To educate students on post-harvest operations, including seed drying, cleaning, grading, and storage.
  • To cultivate entrepreneurial and technical competencies for career readiness in the seed industry.

The Wheat Quality Seed Production project was designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge in the field of certified seed production. Utilizing the “learning by doing” approach, the project enabled students to participate in every stage of the wheat seed production cycle—from field preparation and sowing to rouging, harvesting, and post-harvest processing.

With guidance from Suprime Agro Input Pvt. Ltd., students were trained in essential quality assurance protocols, including isolation standards, field inspections, and seed viability testing. The collaborative model provided exposure to industry-grade techniques, ensuring that students understood both theoretical foundations and practical challenges of modern seed production.

This initiative emphasized experiential learning, preparing students for diverse career paths in agriculture, seed technology, and sustainable farming enterprises.

Outcome:

  • Students gained hands-on experience in wheat seed production, spanning from sowing to final seed handling.
  • The project developed core competencies in crop production, quality control, and certification readiness.
  • Collaboration with Suprime Agro Input Pvt. Ltd. enabled exposure to professional field and quality management practices.
  • Students learned to assess moisture content, germination rate, and seed viability using standard testing methods.
  • The project created a strong foundation for careers in seed production, agri-business, and agricultural entrepreneurship.
