Description

Ganpat University - Kantaben Kashiram Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Research organized a field trip for students of B.Sc. Agriculture, Semester II, to the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in Mehsana, Gujarat, on March 19, 2024. The group, brimming with enthusiasm, departed from the university at 09:15 AM and arrived at APMC by 10:00 AM.
A journey started with the exploration of the vegetables and fruits market. Mr. Saileshbhai Patel, Food Inspector at APMC, graciously guided our tour, our students meet to Chairman of Fruit and Vegetables market and they give huge information of market, storage, supply chain and price update. The students of KKIASR also have excellent interactions with consumers, traders, and retailers to gained invaluable insights.  This knowledge cannot be fully grasped within the confines of a classroom and this visit offered real-world practical learning experiences to students.
Students had the opportunity to observe live auctions of mustard, castor, and wheat. Additionally, students involved in auction process with mustard crop samples, cultivated as a part of their curriculum (practical crop production course) providing a tangible connection to their academic studies. The visit also included a trip to the market office, where students engaged with officials to acquire essential market insights. This interaction was instrumental in unraveling the complexity of the market's operations and the interplay between its different participants.
Interacting with farmers provided a ground-level view of the agricultural ecosystem, including the challenges they face, such as fluctuating market prices, production costs, and the decision-making process regarding when and what to sell.
Overall, these practical experiences served as a bridge to fill the gap between theoretical knowledge and its application in the real world.
