Description

An Expert talk on the topic “Real-Time Assessment of Soil Properties Using VNIR Technique” was organized by the Ganpat University – Faculty of Agriculture and Allied Sciences and invited speaker Dr. Arijit Barman, ICAR-Scientist (Soil Science), NBSS&LUP, Regional Center, Jorhat, Assam on 29th March, 2023 at 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in online mode.

In the beginning of the talk Dr. Deepak Sharma, Assistant Professor, Ganpat University – Kantaben kashiram Institute of Agricultural Sciences and research, greeted all the participants as well as speaker. He gave transitory information about the event and express thanks to all the participants.

Dean, FAAS, Dr. Maurvi Pandya, welcome speaker and all the participants with her astonishing words and convey the importance of the talk series with distinguished topics during wide-ranging series. She introduced the topic with its importance for students and other scientific community.

After that Dr. Parthsinh Rahevar introduced Dr. Arijit Barman to the audience and welcome him.  

Dr. Arijit starts his talk with the welcome to audience and acknowledgements to the institute for inviting him. He first introduced about the NBSS&LUP and its work area. Then he gave the information regarding about the soil mapping and soil survey. Then he explained about spectroscopy which is used in soil analysis by using light with different spectral range rays. The different spectral bands are used for determination of different types of soil properties like soil PH, EC, Soil salinity and alkalinity. He also explained about the importance of Remote sensing in field of agriculture. Further he discussed about case studies of different area of Assam.

After his session he gave response to the questions and interact with the students. So many students asked questions regarding VNIR and SWIR technique, Remote Sensing and application this technique in agriculture.

The talk was ended by Vote of Thanks given by Dr. Deepak Sharma. In the talk total 102 participants including UG students, PG students, research scholar scientist, teachers and private company’s scientist had taken part from all over the India.
