Description
Ganpat University – Kantaben Kashiram Institute of Agriculture Sciences and Research had arranged a visit to GUJCOMASOL, Gandhinagar on 1st February 2024 for B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students. GUJCOMASOL stands for Gujarat State Co-operative Marketing Federation Limited. It is a cooperative federation that deals with many agricultural activities. Their activities include Agro -inputs, procurement of farm outputs, distribution of fertilizers, fertilizer-related services and grain distribution. We departed at 9 AM from our university. We were total 58 students with 3 mentors all in formal attire. We reached at GUJCOMASOL at 11:35 AM. The owner of GUJCOMASOL and AMUL (Anand Milk Union Limited) was Late Tribhuvan Das Patel. GUJCOMASOL was established in 1960 and inaugurated the new building of GUJCOMASOL in Gandhinagar by union home minister Mr. Amit shah on 10 April 2022.
The objectives of the visit were to get to know the market and market channel in more details, to get exposure on products and also to learn about distribution of products. After entering, one guide gave us some general information about the GUJCOMASOL like how the federation works, how many departments are there in total and other information about its management. There is total 5 departments working in GUJCOMASOL i.e., Fertilizer department, Seed department, Pesticide department, Commerce department and department of Diversification and Value addition. After that we were taken to the cash department. After that we moved to the account department. Firstly, we met Mr. Kiran Patel who was the deputy manager of oil and oilseeds commerce. We had a meaningful conversation with him on the topic like working of this federation and how does GUJCOMASOL helps the farmers by purchasing the farm produce at profitable price whenever farmers don’t get their sufficient amount. Further, he also gave information on how does government decide MSP of each crop.
GUJCOMASOL controls the demand and supply of the food grains of the state by purchasing the produce from farmers at the price on which farmers are benefited and also the government can store the stock of that particular grains. They release that stored stock in the market when the demand is high. Furthermore, he explained in detail the distribution channel of the government that how does the farm produce is distributed from farmers to consumer by passing the produce through GUJCOMASOL, all the district centers, the taluka level centers and through village level. After, we moved to fertilizer department whose deputy manager was Mr. Pankaj Parmar. He explained us about various fertilizers, their types, their mode of action and their distribution among the state.
However, he also gave the answers of the students who was having questions regarding to fertilizers and he spotlighted the students by sharing the actual price difference between Pearl urea (size 1 to 2mm) and Granular urea (size 2 to 4mm) so that they can avoid the fraud. Then we went in the staff dining hall for some refreshment.
We were informed about the arrival of the Chairman of GUJCOMASOL Mr. Dilip Sanghani so we were waiting for him in the board room. Then, after few minutes Mr. Dilip Sanghani arrived in board room and all the students welcomed him. Dilipbhai Sanghani (born 12 May 1954) is an Indian politician and former Cabinet Minister in the Bhartiya Janata Party ministry of Gujarat state of India. He was also the chairman of IFFCO and a former Agricultural minister of Gujarat. It was an excellent interaction with him as he shared his experience and many other things. He shared his childhood life stories and his career journey with us. Furthermore, he asked about our studies, our internship programs and how we opted for agriculture field. Mr. Dilipbhai also explained us about nano urea and how does nano urea differ in efficiency and mode of action. Further, he spotlighted us on the farmers conditions in the market and how does the price of the farm produce affect the farmers economy. However, he encouraged students for having the good and huge vision for the farmers of the nation and their own career.
The meeting with Mr. Dilip Sanghani ended at 2:10 PM and it was very productive interaction with him. The meeting ended with the thankful speech which was given by students from M.sc, B.sc, and mentor. Furthermore, we took some pictures with him including the other board members.
